Three elderly people, aged 78, 79 and 85 years old, were attacked three masked thugs (one armed with a gun, one with a knife and one with a crowbar) in an armed robbery on their Bushy Park smallholding outside Port Elizabeth on Tuesday night.
The incident unfolded at about 11 pm when three masked thugs broke in through their laundry door.
The three, a couple in their 70s and the wife’s sister who is in her 80s, were tied up with shoelaces and left in an en-suite bathroom.
The man had been beaten seven times over the head with a crowbar, his skull was badly damaged.
His wife then managed to escape through the bathroom window – after her sister cut through the shoelace restraint with a razor blade – and alerted their daughter who lives on a neighbouring property.
They are fortunately all alive but severely traumatised.
The suspects stole items worth about R50 000.
