Hundreds of illegal immigrants flock to SA, broken border fences at the Limpopo River make it so much easier to cross the border.
Observers determined that 16 illegal immigrants came through near Musina and a further 54 were identified on the same day as “new arrivals” from the northern neighbour lands.
Many are found and arrested without documents, but many more reach the border unhindered and later start working on farms and businesses at much less than the minimum wage law provides.
A Zimbabwe news site reports that during December 3,968 illegal immigrants violated immigration laws at the Beitbridge .
Experts point out that this does not include those who illegally cross the dry Limpopo River to South Africa.
From the beginning of December to New Year’s Day, more than 200 children have been identified who crossed the border into South Africa on their own.
