A concerted effort by the Still Bay police in cooperation with the rural community has landed six suspects behind bars in connection with the recent spate of burglaries targeted at the rural area of Still Bay, as well as an attack on a farm last week. The six suspects is scheduled to appear in the Still Bay Magistrate’s Court. The reported farm attack happened last week, Wednesday, 13 June 2018 at about 00:40 when the a couple who resides in a farmhouse on the Farm Blombos were awaken by a loud bang sound. On further investigation they discovered that their bedroom window had two holes in it and also found a small projectile, possibly that of a .22 bullet, on their bed. No one was injured. The suspects fled the scene on foot, hiding in the bushes. They immediately reported the incident to local SAPS who dispatched members to the scene to further investigate. CSI (Crime Scene Investigation) attached to our Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC) combed the scene for clues and the local SAPS embarked on a manhunt to trace the suspects. Their concerted efforts and endurance paid off when they arrest six suspects between the ages 13 and 21, two girls and four boys/men, who were hiding in the bushy area of Blombos, Still Bay. The arrest was made after a manhunt was conducted from Friday till early Saturday morning. One of our members was hit with what seems to be a bullet from an airgun against his name badge. Fortunately no major injuries were sustained during the ordeal. Subsequent to the attack on the farm and the member, two Attempted Murder cases were opened pending further investigation. The suspects made their first court appearance in the Still Bay Magistrate’s Court and were all remanded in custody. The postponement date is to be confirmed. The suspects had also been linked to the recent spate of burglaries perpetrated in the rural community of Still Bay. The possibility that they can be linked to other burglaries in the area is under investigation. The Da Gamaskop Cluster Commander, Brig Gerhard Jantjies has praised the members for their committed investigation and the tracing of the suspects who had been terrorising the community for the past three weeks. “They need to be brought to book”, he concluded.
